Lichtenstein Explored in December 2015
A pocket-sized country, the fourth smallest in Europe after the Vatican city, Monaco and San Marino.
Beautiful landscapes, nature and nice people and a country one can visit in one day.
During Christmas time, one can enjoy the Christmas market in Vaduz and go skiing in Malburn ski resort.

Lichtenstein
This tiny landlocked country can be reached from Switzerland from the town of Sargans. There are buses outside the train station that take you to Lichtenstein. There's a small castle in Sargans so have a look on your left while passing by bus from there. Last bus stop in Switzerland is before crossing the bridge. The river Reine is actually the borders between Switzerland and Lichtenstein.

Vaduz Castle
The castle rising over the hill in Vaduz is the official residence of the royal family and the Prince of Lichtenstein. The castle has become the symbol of Vaduz and the Principality of Lichtensteil.
One can find the way up the castle and enjoy the views of Vaduz and the Swiss mountains from the viewpoints but not enter the castle as it's closed to the public.

Gutenberg Castle
The first little town you find entering Lichtenstein is Balzers with its wonderful houses and views of the hill where Gutenberg castle is.
Worth a visit and a walk up the hill. Don't get disillusioned though because the castle is not open to visitors.

Buchs - Werdenberg
On the Switzerland side but yet very close to Lichtenstein is the town of Buchs with the beautiful castle of Werdenburg and a small lake in front of it. Enjoy a walk up the castle or just relax on the cafe just across the lake sipping your drink and gazing the beautiful views of Werdenberg.
What to remember:
Lichtenstein is a tax paradise, with only 3% tax.
Zurich to Sargans train trip offers wonderful views of the Zurich lakes.
Buchs to St.Gallen train trip not reccommended as it's quite boring.
From Sargans(Switzerland) to Fledkirch(Austria), the bus ,crossing the to extremes of Lichtenstein, takes 1hour and 15minutes approximately. There's bus 11 which passes from Vaduz and ends in Feldkirk in Austria and bus 21 that stops in Vaduz.
If you have a Swiss Pass then it's valid in Lichtenstein too!
Don't forget to stamp your passport with the Lichtenstein stamp! You can do that at the Tourist Office in Vaduz/Triesenberg/Malburn.
