Luxembourg city
Luxembourg
A small and beautiful country situated in the heart of Europe, bordered by France, Germany and Belgium.Luxembourg may be small, but it is very diverse with beautiful landscapes ranging from moutains to creeks, hills and valleys, historic monuments, castles, fortresses and quaint villages.
Luxembourg is the least populated country in the European Union, with only 465,000 inhabitants. It is also the 20th smallest of the 194 independent countries in the world.Luxembourgish, a Franconian dialect of High German, is the mother tongue of nearly all Luxembourgers. In spite of that, most official (written) business is carried out in French, whereas German is the first language taught in school and used in the media.
many worldwide corporations have their European headquarters in Luxembourg, a country known for its economic growth.
The capital city, Luxembourg, is set high on a cliff, offering spectacular views. There are several places in the old town that are on the UNESCO list of Heritage Sites. One of the most interesting places to visit is the Notre Dame Cathedral. The towns of Echternach and Vianden are favorite stops. Echternach is based in "Little Switzerland" and Vianden is well known for its castles and gothic churches.
The Inernational airport is situated only 6km from the city centre. Chalreroi airport in Belgium is 2hours from Luxembourg city with Ryanair budget airline which flies there from different parts of Europe. Choose to get to Luxembourg centre by shuttle bus directly from the airport and avoid the hassle of getting to Charleroi city centre. The shuttle bus will leave you at the Luxembourg Central Railway Station just at the centre of the city. From Charleroi city centre, you can get the train which takes around to 3hrs and costs 40euros or bus which takes around to 2hs 30min and its prices on Internet can vary from 5-18euros. The bus company is Flibco.com
Suggested time to visit: well,it all depends on what you like. It's definately warmer and busier during summer but if you also like the gloomy, chilly weather that fits perfectly with the castles and leaf-filled narrow lanes, then visit in autumn(September/October). Luxembourg in December with all the Christmas markets around or blossomed nature in spring is also a good time of year to visit(April/May).
