From Schiphol airport(Amsterdam) to Charleroi airport(Brussels)
Time consuming but money saving....so if you can spare a day travelling ,this is the way to travel between these two airports.
Distance: 268km Approximate travel/waiting time: 6-8hrs
STEP 1: Land in Schiphol and pick up your luggage. Find the exit and just before you get out(in the big lounge)you find the entrance to the Metro. Buy your ticket there before you go down the stairs. There are lines 1/2 and 3/4....go for the 1/2! Ask which one is for Duivendrecht. The bus starts from Duivendrecht in case you have no ticket reservation and you want to secure a seat. It passes from Central Station as well. Trains are frequent and time to get to Duivendrecht is 12minutes! You will find the Euroline offices just outside the station after you go downstairs and exit the station. The offices are on your right hand side after the car park. The bus trip from Amsterdam to Brussels can take 3hours (direct) or up until 5hours(non direct). Direct or non direct buses depend on departure times.
Better book online as there are offers at very good prices!
STEP 2: When you reach Brussels, you are in Noordstation (Eurolines stops there).
The bus leaves you just outside the station. In order to get to Gare du Midi(Zuidstation), enter the station and get the Metroline number 4.
STEP 3:Find your way out from the side Rue de France(France street). The bus stops just outside on your left hand side across the street.
*Done on February 2016 when my fight landed in Amsterdam Schiphol but chose to fly home from Charleroi with a budget airline and save money. I spent time in Brussels seeing my friends and flew the next afternoon but even if you decide to spend the night at a hostel...it's still worth the effort.
I spent:
3,50euros Train from airport to Duivendrecht
9euros Eurolines (book online) Amsterdam-Brussels(Noordstation)
17euros(not booked online) Bus Brussels to Charleroi airport.
2,10euros Metro ticket from Noordstation to Gare du Midi (Metro station)
50euros Hotel (approximate price)
*Very close to Charleroi airport there are hotels with Ibis Hotel being a good choice.Bear in mind that you need a taxi to get to the hotels from the airport (around 5euros).They all seem to be very close to the airport but there's a fence and you have to go round it. You can walk to Ibis or the other hotels but it's about a kilometre walk so if the weather and your luggage permits the walk, you can do it. You need to go back (from where the bus came from) to the big roundabout and turn LEFT.Then follow the road and turn LEFT again.Use Google maps too :-) and you'll get there.
